The story of “Another Story”
Another Story is comprised of Steve Malkin (keyboards, programming, percussion and engineering) and Henry Jackson (guitars and percussion). Both are experienced musicians and draw on a wealth of experience with different musical forms and styles to create music that conveys a series of evocative moods. This mostly instrumental music might be best described as cinematic music, world music, or holiday mood music. But the music on their second CD is even more wide ranging and for the first time includes five vocals best described as R’B’ or Neo-Soul.
Both Steve and Henry are experienced musicians and draw on a wealth of experience with different musical forms and styles to create music that conveys a series of evocative moods.
Steve and Henry are both members of the band Australian funk band Portmanteaux https://portmanteauxbandmelbourne.com/ Henry also makes instrumental country style music under the rubric of Otis Slim Sundown https://otisslimsundown.com/
Steve contributes keyboards, songwriting and production chops to the Another Story project. His background includes diverse keyboard duties in rock bands Formula and Soudan, Blues Rock band Off the Leash, covers band Red Handed, country rockers Crakajak and, of course, ongoing keys, composition and production with eclectic funksters Portmanteaux.
Henry was active on the Auckland NZ music scene in the 1960s to the 1970s and played in a number of bands including the Jetblacks, Mad Dog Jug Band, Killing Floor, Original Sun, Oktober, Dog Breath and finally, Cherry Pie, with whom he released a single ‘Lightning Red/Gold Fever’. https://www.audioculture.co.nz/articles/henry-jackson-peter-kershaw-and-the-auckland-blues-boom
He moved to Australia in 1976 and initially played with Alex Burns and Nick Charles. With Alex Burns he formed the band Rollercoaster until Henry called it a day in 1979.
In the mid-1990s he and Nick Allen started playing together and then with Steve Malkin, the three formed the nucleus of what eventually became Portmanteaux.
